The ‘Freedmen’s Torchlight’ Newspaper is Published

*On this date in 1866, the first issue of the Freedman's Torchlight was published. 

This was a monthly publication published by the African Civilization Society and was circulated among communities of Blacks in the historic Weeksville community in central Brooklyn during the mid-1800s.
