Howard University's Abraham Langston Taylor, Charles I. Brown, and Leonard F. Morse chartered the fraternity. Its motto is Culture for Service and Service for Humanity.
Phi Beta Sigma is constitutionally bound to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
