The Boston Red Sox Baseball Team Integrates

Pumpsie Green

On this date in 1959, the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball's American League became the last team to integrate its organization.

It was integrated when Pumpsie Green, a Black man, was included in the lineup.  On this date, Green made pinch runs for the Red Sox.  He played in Boston for three seasons before he was traded to the New York Mets in 1963.
