Denmark Abolishes Slavery

On this date, in 1792, Denmark abolished slavery.  Denmark was complicit with chattel slavery through companies such as the Danish West India Company and others.

They were the first established sovereign European state to prohibit the slave trade (but not slavery: that belongs to Vermont, which abolished slavery in 1777).
